She Photographed women in 60 Countries To Change The Way We Perceive Beauty (Part One)
It was said that “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” This phrase
indicates that we see beauty differently. No one has the exact or precise
parameters to decide whether someone is beautiful or not. However, our
judgement is based on our subjectivity. This is what Mihaela Noroc, a Romanian photographer, attempted to demonstrate
through her project, known as The Atlas of Beauty.
Noroc
states:
My goal is to show
that every woman shines like a star because beauty is diversity, and not just
what we see in mass-media. For me, the real beauty has no age, colours or
trends. You can find it in Africa or in Europe, in a village or in a
skyscraper, in a smile, in a gesture, in an intense gaze, in some wrinkles, or
in a story. You can find it in every kind-hearted human being.
The
photographer, Mihaela, rejects the ‘ideal’ profile of beauty that mass media tries
to create and promote. Just because people look different does not make them
any less beautiful. Therefore, she has been travelling the world for the past 4
years with her backpack and her camera, photographing everyday women and
collecting their stories. Her project is called The Atlas of Beauty and now is
transformed to an interesting book with more than 500 portraits and many stunning
stories. These are sample of pictures:
