Yoruba is a large ethnic group found in Nigeria, Benin, Ghana, senegal and Togo in West Africa. Very attached to their culture, they mark their particularity through a scarf called "Gele". Women use it as an accessory to exalt African beauty and mark their identity.

The port of Gele is transmitted from generation to generation among Yoruba women and knowing how to tie is an art. Historically, each way to tie it had a special meaning that indicated the social situation of the one who wore it.

If the end of the scarf pointed to the right side, it meant that the woman wearing it is married. On the other hand, if he pointed to the left side, it is because the woman is single and could be courted.

There are many opportunities to wear  “Gele” in women. They can wear it at weddings, at home, to market, church, birthday and many other ceremonies.

The ordinary Gele: it is generally made of the same fabric as the worn outfit. It can also be a polyester scarf or shawl and can be used as a headband. It is worn on all occasions.

The Gele Couture: its targets are the followers of African and Nigerian fashion. They come in several categories: Grand Switzerland, Super Jubilee and Hayes Gele. The latter is the most popular, but also the one that has kept its authenticity.
